Thank you for your patience whilst we update the website for the new school year.  Hope you all have a good half-term holiday.

Thomas the Bear's Fun with Reading Page

I like to read all sorts; stories, postcards, letters. I read quite a lot of it aloud to Father Bob. Do you sit and read to a grown-up? It's fun, isn't it? I try to read at the right speed and emphasise some parts so that it sounds more interesting. I use the punctuation to help me do this as well.

I also like fairy tales. When I read a story, I try to imagine where the story is set. Do you? Can you describe the setting? I find that different sorts of books have different settings.

When reading aloud to Father Bob I use letter sounds and patterns to work out and predict words I'm not so familiar with. Sometimes we then re-read the sentence to check it makes sense.

After finishing a reading book, we talk about them, especially all the important parts.

Year 2 children - can you write simple reviews and summaries of the books that you have read and discussed.  What did you like and why?

As well as story books, I read all sorts of other things, like information texts and leaflets. It's good to see if I can understand and remember what information they are giving me. Do you do this?  How is the language different to that of a fiction text?
